Analysis of Dynamic Magnetic Resonance Imaging Features in Breast Cancer
Chang Yun-Woo

Abstract
Background:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristic features of magnetic resonance image findings of breast cancer.

Materials and methods:191 patients with 218 breast cancer underwent dynamic magnetic resonance imaging at 1.5T using the dynamic TI-weighted three dimensional fast low angle shot (FLASH) subtraction image technique. Morphologic analysis of the magnetic resonance image features was evaluated for shape, margin, internal enhancement of the mass enhancement or for enhancement distribution and internal enhancement of non-mass enhancement. Kinetic analysis was evaluated using the time intensity curve including peak enhancement time, initial enhancement slope and delay enhancement patterns.

Results:Dynamic enhanced magnetic resonance imaging shows the morphologic features of irregular (51%) or spiculated margins (45%) and of heterogeneous (64%) or rim enhancement (36%) in breast cancer. The kinetic features of dynamic enhanced magnetic resonance images show early peak enhancement after contrast injection on the first scan (52%) and second scan (41%) and delayed washout (59%) or plateau (39%) enhancement in breast cancer, With regard to the initial slope according to time-signal intensity, 180 (83%) showed early rapid enhancement.

Conclusions:Breast cancer has seen irregular or spiculated margins, heterogeneous or rim enhancement, early peak enhancement on the first or second scan after contrast enhancement, and delayed washout or plateau enhancement on dynamic enhanced magnetic resonance images. Dynamic enhanced breast MR images could show the characteristic features of morphologic and hemodynamic patterns in breast cancer.
